Sports & Hazardous Activities

Information about what activities are included in our travel insurance policies.

In all cases you are required at all times to wear the appropriate safety equipment for that activity (for example, protective clothing and/or suitable head protection). There is no cover for Personal Liability where the claim is related to vehicle, watercraft or aircraft activities.

Group 1 - Casual Activities

You are automatically covered for these activities at no extra cost provided that the activity is on a casual, unplanned or Incidental Basis and not the main purpose of your trip.

  • Kayaking * (up to Grade 4)

  • Manual Work (ground level, no machinery)
  • Motorcycling or Quad biking up to 50cc * (subject to full lic & wearing helmet)

Group 2 - Casual Activities

These activities are covered provided the activity is on a casual, unplanned or Incidental Basis and not the main purpose of Your trip. Claims relating to these activities will be subject to 50% reduction in Personal Accident Benefits, and Medical Expenses Excess increased to £300.

  • Elephant Riding
  • Football (amateur)
  • Hiking (4000m to 6000m)
  • Hockey (amateur)
  • Kayaking * (over grade 4)
  • Martial Arts Training
  • Motorcycling or Quad biking up to 125cc *

Group 3 - Regular Activities

These activities are covered when participation is on a regular, non-casual basis or are the main purpose of your trip. Claims relating to these activities will be subject to a 50% reduction in Personal Accident cover and Medical Expenses Excess increased to £300.

  • Cycling (Touring)
  • Fruit Picking
  • Go Karting
  • Hiking / Rambling / Trekking (up to 6000m)
  • Horse Riding / Pony Trekking
  • Husky Sledge Riding *
  • Inshore Sailing *
  • Jogging
  • Marathons
  • Mountain Bike Touring
  • Safaris (booked in the UK, must be supervised & overland, no firearms)
  • Sailing Holidays * (no air sea rescue, within 12 miles of the coastline)
  • Scuba Diving to 30m
  • Sleigh Riding *
  • Snow Park Activities (provided Wintersports premium paid) – jumps (small & medium up to 30ft), pipes, boxes & rails (no acrobatics)
  • Surfing *

Golfing Holidays

Golfing holidays are included as standard.

Ski & Winter Sports

On policies where this cover is provided the following is included:

  • Guided Cross Country Skiing
  • Ice Skating
  • Mono Skiing
  • Off Piste Skiing & Snowboarding (except in areas designated as unsafe by resort management)
  • Recreational Racing
  • Skiing
  • Snowboarding (with a leash)
  • Snow Mobiling
  • Snowshoeing (provided trip is booked in the UK & is part of an organised tour)
  • Snow Tubing
  • Tobogganing *

Motorcycling

Riding your own motorcycle (excluding trial/track riding or racing) is covered when the appropriate premium is paid, except that there is no Personal Accident or Personal Liability cover for motorcycle related claims.

  • Motorcycling up to 1500cc
  • Motorcycling 1501cc to 1800cc (rider must be aged 35+ and have at least 2 years experience of riding a comparable bike)
